Directors Alistair Newton and Tanja Jacobs came to me with the idea to make the set reflective- a daunting task for a show performed outside in the heat of summer. They wanted something grand and old- that could double for the mindscape of Queen Lear and the spectacular hotel for Twelfth Night. Over time I developed a concept of a mirror that reaches up and fractures, and created a paint treatment that resembled emulsified mirror. Each show had removable items of set decorations and props (designed mostly by Caroline Smith and Victoria Wallace) to differentiate the worlds.
